PET CARE TIPS

  1. Cut your pet's Cancer Risk.

    What Owners Can do:

    • Spaying/Neutering is one way to cut the risk of certain cancers.
    • Animals who recieve Excessive Exposure to Sunlight are at risk for skin cancers in body areas that lack fur or skin pigmentation.

  2. Keep Shedding in Check:
  • ALL FURRY PETS SHED their coats in some manner---they must lose the old, dead hair in order to make more new healthy hair.
  • Shedding isn't influenced by temperature, but by the amount of daily sunlight and by hormones.
  • Althought you can't eliminate shedding completely, with your groomer's help you can control it.

*Visit your groomer regularly, as often as recommended.

*Various Shampoos and conditioners formulated to minimize hair loss, and good old-fashioned elbow grease.  Note that shaving a long-haired dog won't reduce the amount of shedding.  The animal will still shed the same amount of hair, bit it will be much shorter; and harder to remove from  rugs, furniture, and clothing.

  • Between professional appointments, regular home care helps keep shedding manageable.

* Most long- or double-coated breeds should be brushed at least two or three times a week.  (Brushing and combing help control shedding, but they also condition the skin and coat and prevent matting.

*Always use the proper tools to groom your pet.  If used incorrectly  some equipment can injure your pet's  skin and coat or make the experience unpleasant.  Consult your groomer for advise on the tools you'll need and how to use them.

*Shedding to some extent is a fact of life with pets, but thanks to a combination of attentive home care and regular sessions with a professional groomer, you can manage it.  Your pet will be happier and healthier and will definitely look better--and you'll spend less time vacuuming!
